‘Canticles from St Paul’s’ bevat vijf versies van het Magnificat en Nunc dimittis, met muziek uit de dienst van de Metten van Malcolm Archer, William Walton en Alec Roth. Het is opwindend om geliefde werken van Stanford en Walmisley zo goed gezongen te horen, samen met minder bekende stukken van Alan Gray, Michael Tippett en Charles Wood. Andrew Carwood en het St Paul’s Cathedral Choir besteden nauwgezette aandacht aan de kleinste details, zodat elk woord en elke noot overkomt als iets kostbaars en heiligs. De wonderbaarlijk kleurrijke begeleidingen van organist Simon Johnson zijn afwisselend dramatisch en lyrisch. Andrew Carwood and the St Paul’s Cathedral Choir pay scrupulous attention to the tiniest of details, so that every word and note come across as something precious and sacred. The wonderfully colourful accompaniments of organist Simon Johnson are, by turns, both dramatic and lyrical. This is choral singing at its finest; in every way, listening to this glorious CD is a heavenly experience
